Memphis prides itself as a “smart city.” So, what’s so smart about the way Memphis Animal Services is being operated?

First, the cameras that were set up for the Mayor’s “transparancy” isn’t being utilized by the public for what they were designed to do. Being viewed by the police department is a joke. I know first hand, abuse to the dogs & cats is continuing as if it were 2009, and NO ONE is watching, NO ONE is stopping the abuse, and Memphis is seen as facitalitators of the abuse.

Second, how are MAS employees being selected? The videos from MAS currently show employees who obviously have no training or background in the care of pets. They are seen using choke-poles on tiny puppies, picking them up, carrying them & dragging them around unnecessarily when carrying them by hand, in their arms is more appropreiate & compassionate. It’s quite obvious the employees I’ve seen have no business in the animal care business.

Third, MAS has long been notorous for dog & cat abuse and we wonder, when IS it going to be cleaned up? A new building isn’t doing it, a new director isn’t doing it, and the Mayor HASN’T done it ever since he came into office with his promises of “transparancy”. Hideing the camera’s views is another way to PROVE he has no intention of stopping the abuse, neglect, mistreatment & possibly MORE dogs being stolen.

The employees currently at MAS need to be replaced with compassionate people who knows dogs & cats & are not so afraid to handle them & not only use choke-poles every time they’re in contact with an animal.

Memphis has made itself seem as a backwards uncaring city that will never change. Too many people who are SUPPOSED to be responsible for MAS isn’t doing right by the pets in their “shelter.” That’s some “sheltering” they’re doing. Across the U.S., information about MAS is known and it’s only getting worse. Let this be your wake-up call.
