Why would anyone think there would be a blowback if Kriner Cash was shown the door? He was and continues to be the main reason so many voted for the charter surrender. Honestly!

When that no-grade and no-fail policy was put in place 3 years ago that was the begining of the end for him. Especially after he encouraged board members to go along with it and therefore not hold him accountable.

Why not try out Aitken for a while? That would be much better than hiring a new person from out of town with no vested intrest in Memphis. We now have board members who will be interested (hopefully) in providing the best education for our kids versus the best political platform to run for another office for themselves.

Pickler was against the school merger. He lives in Germantown and is supporting the formation of the 5 or 6 (?) municipal school systems especially Germantown. He's running to be a member of the newly merged Shelby County School Board. If elected he will vote on matters pertaining to budgets funded by the County Commission and State government that could indirectly benefit Germantown, thus increasing taxes for everybody. This sounds like a conflict of interest.

Question: Can a municipal school system unilaterally decide to include students outside of its borders? If yes, can a municipal system thus say that anyone in the county can attend its school or anyone within 3 miles, 5 miles? If no, are the proposed municipal systems feasible?

My point, wouldn't that neew school board, absent all the burbs that want to leave, be the one to select the superintendent? Why should Pickler and company pick the superintendent if it is their intention to leave anyway? And, I believe they are making that intention very clear.

There is a transitional group doing planning and then there is the school board now running the school systems. The school board has the final say over the superintendent. Another school board for the new countywide system will be elected later this year.

Did I miss something? I thought the new school board which would hire and fire the new superintendent was not even in place yet. How can this decision be made by the transitional board?
