Personally, I don't really care about lower fares from Delta. They have made flying an absolute nightmare. I can't think of a worse flying experience than those I've had on Delta.

What I do care about is the lack of competition. Whether it's Southwest, US Air, Virgin Atlantic, or the plane with the duck-taped wing from 'Major League,' I want a competitor airline to amp up operations in Memphis and send Delta into a tailspin. Actually, all of those would work. The more, the merrier.

When friggin' Huntsville, Alabama, has better flight selections than Memphis, you know your airport is in trouble.

$elta is doing what all businesses do, trying to make a profit, but when they do so at the expense of others by charging higher fees they leave a bad taste that lasts a lot longer than their profitability. No is opposed to profit but this is seen as gouging. I will avoid them on International flights, because I can.candidates

An appointment to the Airport Authority appears to be a lifetime appointment.
Why did Cox become president of the Chamber of Commerce? It’s all an interconnected network of good ole boy republicans (and the mayors wife as minority window dressing).

New people from other big airport bring new ideas, new contacts and a much needed youthful energy to the airport. Recently the Airport has seen it’s bond rating be lowered, service cut and sky-high airfares.

Why is that considered good enough to keep your job?

p.s. In a city that should support African-American minority participation why is every airport job given to the same Oklahoma based Native American firm? Why are efforts not made to funnel that HUGE amount of cash into training an African American owned firm. Make Flinto Co partner with black owned construction firms to train them to take larger and larger shares of the work. Our city must have a black middle class in order to survive.

It’s one thing to want lower fares for a once a year Denver flight to go skiing. But I thought companies would pay more for the ability to hold over in a meeting and catch a later flight. As a hub city, we have multiple flights to most cities each day. Maybe this is not as important as lower fares? Does anyone have both?

Clearing the air and opening lines of communications may be the most important part of all this. I, like most every other leisure traveler, complain about fares and drive-to-fly. But I have been dubious of the business traveler claims. I have doubted that price trumped convenience. I thought time was money and $200 more for a flight is one hour worth of billing for an attorney or one extra sales call for a parts company which might be worth much more.

This facebook exercise may be showing that there could be more originations from Memphis if fares made more sense for everyone. Maybe, today time is not money… money is money… maybe we have become so efficient and productive that we don’t care about playing loose with our flight schedules anymore?
