WE won't change that we're a distribution, but, outside forces could, such as chinese industries moving in around us using their own distribution chain and supplanting ours by charging prices lower than FedEx, yeah, that is a real possibility.
It's already started.

I would like to throw out this plea:

I am a talented young individual away at a prestigious college and I definitely would like a place to hear about internship opportunities back home. I want to be able to call Memphis home for the rest of my life. I just hope my city will let me. Don't make me have to end up in some culture-less job fair like Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Phoenix, or--please no--Nashville.

Wharton ought to work on his own narrative. Already, his remains a senior citizen who talks about bringing in young people into city government and then appoints a 55-year-old CAO. I guess that's young to him.

Between that and appointing a committee to do everything but set the clocks in his office, his narrative is way clear. His legacy will be mediocrity because he is incapable of making a decision or going anything dramatic.

I agree with you completely, Bob. While that distinction will never change that we're a distribution city, we have the potential to emerge as a player in biomedical research (even though that is still years away with the UT Baptist research park still under construction). We just need to make sure that we have the right people in place to realize those potentials.

Let's not forget that, because of our location, we've always been a pretty major distribution hub, moving goods and people. Along with that, warehousing.

First it was steamboats and barges. Then trains. Now it's airplanes.

Not very glamorous, but it's true.
